Hollard Australia started from humble beginnings almost 15 years ago with current Chief Executive Officer Richard Enthoven. As a pioneer in the Australian market, the business was able to draw on the remarkable 20 year history of insurance innovation of Hollard in the South African market.

Richard Enthoven sets up Hollard Australia.

The first Hollard partnerships formed with Amway, Lumley and ACE.  


Hollard obtains a general insurance licence. 

Hollard partners PetSure to offer the first specialised pet insurance in Australia.  Hollard and PetSure have since developed pet insurance into one of the fastest growing insurance categories.


Partnerships are formed with AFA, an accident and health insurance underwriting agency, Sportscover to offer specialist sports insurance products, and Risk Insure to offer mobile phone insurance.


A partnership is formed with MECON, today known as the MECON Winsure Insurance Group. It specialises in construction and engineering industries insurance across Australia and New Zealand.


Hollards first proprietary retail insurance brand, Real Insurance, is launched.  We now offer car, home, life, funeral, income protection, pet, travel and bicycle insurance through the Real Insurance brand.

A partnership is formed with Nautilus Marine (now NM Insurance), a specialist distributor of pleasure water craft and pleasure water craft industry related insurance products, as well as commercial marine insurance.


Hollard starts partnering with brokers for the first time. It now  has partnerships with over 30 brokers and continues to partner with brokers who fit its growth model.


Hollard starts to sell life products direct to the public under the Real Insurance brand.

A partnership is formed with Insuret, a specialist insurer to the vehicle rental industry.


Hollard Financial Services (HFS) is formed to sell funeral insurance and term life insurance products. HFS sets up a new brand, Guardian, which offers generous life insurance benefits and product features not typically available through other direct distribution brands.

HFS forms a partnership with Medibank which offers its members tailored life and pet insurance products.

HFS forms partnerships with Hannover Life Re, Swiss Re together with AIG and St Andrews to underwrite and reinsure its growing base of award-winning life insurance products. 

Real Insurance launches Pay As You Drive Insurance, the first trust-based pay by the kilometre insurance in Australia.

Partnership is formed with Velosure which offers tailored bike insurance for bicycle owners.


Partnerships are formed with Aussie, Budget Direct, Australian Seniors Insurance Agency. 

A partnership is also formed with AI Insurance, a motor and related insurance products specialist.


Hollard Administration Services Pty Ltd is formed to streamline policy administration and claims processing for Real Insurance and all its other retail brands across life, funeral and income protection.


The dawn of comparative insurance sites abroad saw Hollard Australia launch Choosi, which aggregates information to help consumers compare insurance products and make informed decisions and compare rates for life, funeral and income protection insurance across a number of brands.

HFS launches Income protection insurance.

A partnership is formed with All Parks, specialists in caravan parks, camping grounds and lifestyle villages insurance.


After an extensive tender process Woolworths chooses Hollard as its insurance partner to white label a range of car, home and contents, pet, travel and life insurance products.

Partnerships are formed with Cabsafe, a taxi insurance specialist and the RSPCA in order to offer RSPCA pet insurance to pet owners.
